A top restaurant has responded after a couple claimed they were surrounded by their waiters who 'wanted to fight them' after asking about gluten in their food.

A woman said she and her husband had an 'awful experience' at Manchester venue Royal Nawaab.

In a review posted to TripAdvisor, customer Kyla said she and her partner were surrounded by 'about 10 waiters' who 'were ready for a scene and wanted to fight us'.

She visited the popular Levenshulme restaurant in November and vowed to never go back as the Manchester Evening News report that the owners have now issued a statement about the incident.

In response to the complaint, bosses said they would take 'swift action' to ensure 'our future guests receive exemplary service and product'.

The diner wrote on the review website late last year: “Went here with my husband in November.

“I have problems with gluten so often choose to eat out in this type of restaurant due to safety in food prep. I asked for the allergy book and was given an unclean document that showed everything on the menu contained gluten.

“That’s fine, but when my husband discussed it with the floor manager he laughed and thought it was funny. When my husband said it wasn’t ok to laugh about 10 other waiters arrived and stood around us as if they were ready for a scene and wanted to fight us.

“I’ve never seen anything like it. I’ve eaten here successfully by delivery. It was an awful experience. Never again.”

A spokesperson for the Royal Nawaab said steps will be taken to avoid a repeat in the future.

They said: "It is always concerning when we hear that our guests are unhappy with the services that we have provided. We would like to give our assurances that we take customer feedback extremely seriously and full consideration is being given to the points raised.

"Further, we can confirm that swift action will be taken if necessary to ensure our future guests receive exemplary service and product.

"We would like to firmly promise our valued guests our that our food hygiene and allergen measures are a subject on which we are never complacent.

"Our health and safety measures are rigorously reviewed and it is only through constructive feedback that we are able to continually improve our standards of service."

The family who own the restaurant have been locked in a legal battle over its ownership for several years, in the wake of a family feud.

The restaurant closed its doors last week as employees from the restaurant, who claim they had been told to stay at home during the closure and are only paid for the hours they work, have said that the restaurant is set to reopen tomorrow.

Commenting about the restaurant’s brief closure, a spokesman said: “We value our staff and every single one of them still has a job and they will all be back at work as soon as the restaurant re-opens.

“The management is working very hard to resolve any outstanding issues to the satisfaction of everyone. Rest assured everyone is still currently employed and will be paid, none of the employees will lose their jobs.”

The spokesman also confirmed that the restaurant will have a new name.
