The Met Office has revealed when the nation should next expect flurries of snow falling this month as sub zero temperatures approach.

The nation was hamstrung shortly before Christmas when snowfall caused issues for road users as well as passengers on trains for several days.

Rumours had swirled more will fall by the end of the weekend.

But the Met Office says it expects the mercury to stay at around the same as expected for the time of the year, with no chance of snow fall except in the high mountain ranges.

A spokesman for the Met Office said: “This weekend we expect temperatures across the UK to be near normal to mild for the time of year.

“It is very likely the tops of the mountains in Scotland will see some snow on the seventh (of January), but it won’t be widespread or at low levels.

“This would not be the first snow of 2023 – it has been snowing on the Scottish mountains this morning, and we also had snow warnings out for parts of Scotland on New Year’s Day.”
