In the picture, Derek is sitting up in bed smiling as carer Jake holds his hand.

Kate wrote on Instagram: "Many of you will remember Jake who cared for Derek when he first came out of hospital in April 21 - from the documentary #caringforderek , so you will know what a wonderful healthcare professional he is.

"But have just found out he’s also an amazing musician - under the name @sencymiller.x - He’s just released a song called #okukuseku (check it out in his bio) - which no surprise is full of love & inspiration to keep going & never give up.

"The world of carers never fails to surprise me with their depths of talent, thoughtfulness and motivation #happyfriday all!"

Derek was previously diagnosed with sepsis and a kidney infection.

He became the nation’s longest suffering Covid patient after spending 13 months in hospital after contracting the illness in 2020.

Kate revealed she secretly flew Derek to North America for a ground-breaking medical trial in November.

The GMB star pursued the trip when a world renowned US doctor contacted her after seeing Derek’s plight on TV.

Kate's social media post tonight comes after she was close to tears while grilling former Health Secretary Matt Hancock on GMB over flouting lockdown guidelines during the coronavirus pandemic.

On Tuesday's ITV show, Kate repeatedly blinked to try to hold her emotions back as she took the lead in the tough interview.

She told viewers how she had repeated contact with the politician during the pandemic, and supported some of the additional measures Matt, 44, had called for.

These included expanding the symptoms list and putting long Covid under a greater spotlight.

Yet as she pushed back her sadness over the dad of her two kids - who has been fighting to overcome health problems ever since - she addressed the I'm A Celeb finalist and flagged the "moment you fell in love" with ex aide Gina.

"I suppose the problem [upset at his rule-breaking] is you were the Health Secretary," she said.

"Because at that time it mattered and my husband Derek was in hospital and not able to see his kids.

"And the thousands of other people couldn't see people that they loved because they were following the guidelines."

Kate continued: "The rules were very muddled for us out here.

"This gives the impression you still don't get why they are cross.

"You still don't get why people are upset.

"They want to hold you to more account."

She added: "You made the decision to go in [the jungle] at a time before you had answered to the inquiry and at a time when people still feel very raw.

"Can you explain now, because I am not sure people yet feel comfortable about why you did it [the affair]."

Matt replied: "Oh I see absolutely.

"So I get all that I really do. And I really feel it.

"The reason I think it's important I wrote the book in particular, with the inquiry coming later, is I have to be completely open about what I did.

"Why I did it so I can be as open as possible."

The Sun exposed Matt Hancock's breach of his own coronavirus rules, when he conducted an affair with Gina Conadangelo in his ministerial office.
