Colwill, 21, has put doubts over his future to rest by striking fresh terms with his boyhood club.

Brighton were keen on signing the defender permanently following last season’s loan transfer.

There was additional interest from Liverpool and Man City too, with Colwill concerned over his playing time under Mauricio Pochettino.

But, after being guaranteed a regular starting spot, Colwill has now reportedly put pen to paper on a new six-year contract.

And the centre-back confirmed he would not be returning to Brighton in an emotional post on social media.

However, Colwill appeared to take aim at former Chelsea boss Tuchel by thanking Graham Potter and the Seagulls for taking a chance on him last term.

Tuchel rejected the chance to keep Colwill in his senior squad.

But fast forward a year later and he is now set to play a key role for Chelsea while also pushing for England honours.

Colwill said: “To Brighton and Hove Albion. I am proud to have played a small part in the clubs success last season.

“You gave me an opportunity to play in the Premier League when no one else did.

“I thank Graham Potter for first bringing me to the club and to all the employees at the stadium and training ground for making it a great place to perform and develop.

“To the fans, you've always had my back! Since I got into the side, your continuous support made me feel comfortable to play the way I wanted to play and not fear about making mistakes.
