A new £250million jail has been given a top Tripadvisor style rating from one of its most notorious inmates.

HMP Five Wells is proving to be like five-star accommodation for lags transferred to the nick in Northamptonshire.

There are no bars on windows and the cells, known as rooms, have ensuite showers.

Wardens and inmates – called residents – are on first name terms.

It is so comfy paedophile Michael Thurman has given it a glowing review in prison mag Inside Time.

Thurman, 80 – given seven years for sex attacks on a five-year-old girl – called it “a 5-star establishment”.

He wrote: “I am grateful to be transferred here. The cells have ample room, but are slightly lacking in shelves.

“At last I am in a prison where, as a form of respect, the guards use our Christian names and told us theirs.”

He said he wanted to thank the governor “for the chance to be in conditions far better than my previous prison, which contained a large number of vermin, rats, spiders, and silverfish in the cells.

“I have to say that, despite small problems, HMP Five Wells is a 5-star establishment.”

The pervert, from Leicestershire, went on the run in 2017 after his abuse was reported. He fled to Fuerteventura in the Canaries but was collared by police there. He was extradited and jailed in 2020.

Category C Five Wells in Wellingborough opened last year and was labelled a “budget hotel” by critics.

Prisoners each have a tablet PC and access to a gym, snooker table, table tennis and sports pitches.

It is run by private firm G4S under a contract with the Prison Service. G4S declined to comment.
