A family is desperate for answers after a teenager died on holiday in Thailand.

Daniel Talbot, 19, died on Sunday under mysterious circumstances, with his family now working to bring his body home to the Gold Coast, Australia.

Daniel's family are still trying to piece together what exactly led to his death. The teen's former teacher said details "are a little vague".

Dean Harawira: "At this stage details of his passing are a little vague and the family are trying hard to deal with coroners and insurance and airline companies to get Daniel repatriated home to Australia as soon as possible."

Tributes have poured in online for the teenager, who worked for Padlockd Escape Rooms & Bar in Surfers Paradise.

"You were loud, obnoxious, super smart, super funny, a good friend, someone I always admired for their commitment and determination. Rest easy my g."

Caleb Upton said Mr Talbot would be sorely missed, Daily Mail Australia reports.

"Wish I could've spent more time than I had with you," Mr Upton said. "You were always the kindest person and a true man."

Daniel's sister Edyn Talbot captioned her profile picture featuring her brother, "please com home to me" alongside a broken heart emoji.

Padlockd Escape Rooms & Bar in Surfers Paradise released a statement on Tuesday saying it had 'lost one of its own'.

"Daniel was the life of the party, the light in every room and the reason for every laugh you'd hear from our game masters," the venue wrote on Instagram.

"We will be closed today to allow our staff some time to process, and please bear with us while we come to terms with this loss as a team."

Mr Harawira has set up a GoFundMe to help the family with the cost of retrieving Mr Talbot from Thailand and with funeral expenses.
