PARENTS spend an average of £70 on entertainment for their child’s birthday celebrations.

A poll by vouchercloud.co.uk has revealed this represents 21 per cent of the total budget for a kids’ party.

But families can save a small fortune by trying these ideas to create their own fun at home.

ON THE BALL: Forget hiring a ball pit and soft play. Simply make your own version in the house.

If you have a children’s paddling pool already, fill it with play balls for your very own pit.

Head to The Range, where a pack of 100 antimicrobial balls are down from £10.89 to £7.99.

GLUE FOR GOLD: A crafting station is an excellent way to keep kids of all ages entertained.

Set up a table with arts and crafts supplies, such as paper, crayons, markers and glue from your existing craft box.

If you haven’t got lots available, head to The Works for the “colour your own tote bag kit”.

It’s £1 and includes a fabric bag with assorted animal colouring-in patterns as well as a set of pens.

BEAT DOWN THE COST: Fill a paper bag with sweets and small toys, then decorate it with tissue paper and streamers.

Hang it from a tree, beam or washing line and let the kids take turns trying to break it open with a wooden spoon.

Buy a pinata and it will cost around £10 on the high street.

BLOW A BUBBLE: A bubble zone is also a low-cost activity that children will love.

Use a bowl or a bucket filled with washing-up liquid and get creative with kitchen utensils to create bubbles.

A colander works well, or blow bubbles through a plastic cup with a hole punched into the base.

If you have reusable straws, these are also great for blowing bubbles.
