Pep Guardiola has warned Premier League games will be 100 minutes minimum after Leandro Trossard ’s 111th-minute equaliser set up Arsenal ’s Community Shield win.

After losing on penalties, the Manchester City boss said: “We have to accept it. We have to do it. Now we are not going to have 90-minute games. Now the games are going to be 100 minutes, that’s for sure.”

The Treble winners saw substitute Cole Palmer’s magnificent late strike cancelled out by Trossard’s deflected effort in the eleventh minute of added time. It follows a World Cup-style crackdown on time-wasting and dissent from referees chiefs. More time will be added on for goal celebrations, which officials feel have become lengthier and more elaborate.

Referees will also be obliged to specifically time how long the game is stopped before the restart for game interruptions, such as a goal, a substitution, injury, or preparations for a free-kick.

Eight minutes were originally added to the 90 at Wembley with City leading. But another three minutes were tacked on by referee Stuart Attwell after a clash of heads between Thomas Partey and Kyle Walker.

Guardiola accused football chiefs of not consulting managers and players before issuing the new guidelines. He went on: “We have to get used to it.

"I had a feeling - not because we were winning 1-0 - but I had a feeling that there wasn’t much that happened to extend the time added on to eight minutes.

“But it’s a good question for the international board and all the people because they don’t consult with the board, they don’t consult with the managers, they don’t consult with the players for their opinion. So now we are going to see one hundred minutes.

“So in a game that’s 4-3 that’s 45 seconds for the celebrations for each goal. For a game that has seven goals I’ll still be [in a press conference] at 9am the following morning!”
