Nick Owen revealed he and Anne Diamond have been 'cajoling each other' after they were both diagnosed with cancer. The 75-year-old BBC Midlands Today presenter was diagnosed with prostate cancer in April while 68-year-old Anne was diagnosed with breast cancer in December last year.
The duo, who presented BBC One's Good Morning With Anne and Nick together in the 90s, have been 'talking to each other' as they share their support. Nick revealed it has been nice to have the support of his former co-star as they go through similar difficult journies.
Speaking to Jon Kay and Rachel Burden on BBC Breakfast on Tuesday, he said: “We’ve been sort of cajoling each other… We both had major surgeries, we’ve both been talking to each other, either texting or phoning, it’s a tough old time. Even though she’s sort of better and I’m sort of better, you’re not quite yourself for a while, it takes it out of you.”
He continued: “It’s just so ironic that she and I, who are, I suppose, forever associated as a partnership professionally, we both got quintessentially male-female cancers.”

The duo have been supporting each other on the difficult journey (GC Images)Nick added that he's been feeling "quite fragile" after undergoing radical prostatectomy but hopes to make a comeback to Midlands Today next month. Discussing the procedure he said: It’s called ‘radical’, so very invasive. I feel quite fragile at the moment, but I am very positive and I’m so much brighter than I was two or three weeks ago, so I feel very lucky, and I’m just really keen to urge people to get checked.

“I had no symptoms and people might think ‘I have no symptoms so why bother?’, but I think it’s important, especially if you’re over 50, getting in the system, especially if you have family history. The key is to get it early… mine was caught early-ish, but, who knows, six months later it could have spread down the body.”

The GB News presenter said she received the diagnosis the same day as finding out she was to be made OBE. Speaking in June she revealed she had undergone a double mastectomy in her “fight against breast cancer” – which she described as “a long journey”.
“I haven’t been on a world cruise, which is what I know social media has been saying … because I’m well-known now for loving cruises,” she said. “It’s been a fight against breast cancer. That’s what it’s been. It’s been a long journey. And five months later, I’m still not at the end of the journey, but I’m through it enough to come back to work.”
