Homeowner left seriously injured as car smashes through family home wall

A car smashed through the wall of a home and into the living room, leaving one homeowner - who was watching TV at the time - with "serious" injuries.

Allan and Linda Henderson were relaxing at their home in Glenrothes, Fife, after a long day on Friday, 21 July.

He had been watching TV when at around 7.50pm, a white Vauxhall Corse ploughed through the wall of their bungalow and into their front room.

Dad-of-two Allan, 67, was rushed to hospital following the shocking smash and is being treated for serious head injuries, one neighbour said.

Linda, also 67, was in the next room and was thankfully uninjured.

The driver of the car, an 18-year-old man, was uninjured too, and an 18-year-old woman, who was a passenger in the car, was taken to hospital for treatment before being released.

Neighbours were left horrified by the smash, with one telling the Daily Record how they heard a “bang” so loud they mistook it for thunder at first.

They said: “Just before 8pm on Friday night we heard a loud bang which we actually thought was thunder. But about 15 minutes later we heard sirens which is when we realised what had happened.

“A car had driven right into the Hendersons’ home. The white Corsa had gone right through the front wall of their house and into their living room.

“Allan had been sitting in the front sitting room watching TV at the time the car hit. Linda was in their second living room but can’t remember much, just the huge bang and then lots of rubble.

"Luckily she wasn’t injured. Allan was taken to hospital with serious head injuries. He can’t remember a thing. Linda is still shaken up but hopefully Allan will be able to get home from hospital soon.

“Allan was actually sitting on the couch in the room where it happened. It could have been so much worse.”

Police Scotland said an 18-year-old man has been arrested and charged with a road traffic offence.

He has been released on condition to appear at court at a later date and a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.

Officers were still at the scene yesterday and the car, which remains inside the property, will be removed next week once the building is deemed safe.

The neighbour, who has asked not to be identified, added: “Linda has moved out for now so no one is living at the property. The car is still in the sitting room and neighbours have been told it won’t be moved until the house is made safe next week.”
