Bruce Willis' wife shares 'really important' focus amid his dementia diagnosis

Bruce Willis' wife made a heartbreaking statement on social media to give her followers an update on her husband's condition.

Emma Heming Willis shared a video to her Instagram Stories in which she candidly shared the struggles she faced as Bruce’s "care partner". She described how it had been “doom and gloom” behind closed doors, but insisted she had to put her "best foot forward".

Last year, the family of the Hollywood icon explained how the 68-year-old had been diagnosed by doctors as having frontotemporal dementia. He had initially been suffering from the language disorder aphasia. Bruce’s ex-wife Demi Moore, their three children Rumer, 34, Scout, 31, and Tallulah, 29, along with Emma and their daughters Mabel, 11, and Evelyn, 9, revealed in an emotional statement last year that the Die Hard star would be retiring from acting after he was diagnosed with aphasia.

And now Emma, who married Bruce in 2009, has opened up on her life with her husband and his condition. She told the camera: "I know it looks like I’m out living my best life - I have to make a conscious effort every single day to live the best life that I can."

She then told her fans she wasn’t feeling “good”, but was trying to get through every day for the sake of her family. She went on to reveal her worries over other people thinking she was doing fine when the reality of her personal life was very different.

Emma continued: "I do that for myself. I do that for our two children. And Bruce, who would not want me to live any other way. So I don’t want it to be misconstrued." As she broke down in tears, she added: "I have to put my best foot forward for the sake of myself and of my family. When we are not looking after ourselves, we cannot look after anyone that we love. So it’s really important."

The former model confessed it was a “conscious effort” to make sure she made time for self-care, explaining to her fans she was “doing the best I can, always". She then urged fellow carers to take five minutes out of their day to do something that made them happy, saying: "I know your day is stressful, and I know that your day is hard, but I just want you to break it up for a minute, and just look for something beautiful."
