A 19-year-old man died and another was injured in a brutal stabbing in the early hours of this morning.
Officers were called to Railway Road, Ormskirk, at 12.05am on July 29 following reports of an ongoing disturbance. A 19-year-old man was found a short distance away with stab injuries. Despite the best efforts of the emergency services, he sadly died later in hospital.
A second 19-year-old was also treated for stab injuries. He has been taken to hospital, but his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening, reports the Liverpool Echo.
Police confirmed two men have been arrested in connection with the stabbing. A 19-year-old man from Liverpool, and a 19-year-old man from Maghull, are being held on suspicion of affray. They remain in custody for questioning. Police said the arrests were related to an altercation on Railway Road involving a number of males.
Police have cordoned off part of Ormskirk town centre (Ormskirk Live)Reacting to the news, a local said: "It's so sad. You just don’t expect these things to happen."

Lancashire Police said in a statement: "Our officers attended Railway Road, Ormskirk, at 12.05am today (July 29) to reports of an ongoing disturbance.

One town centre shopper told LancsLive: "You can't access Moor Street from the end where the taxi shop is. Everyone has to walk round."
This morning, West Lancashire Borough Council tweeted: "Due to a police incident in Ormskirk Town Centre last night, areas on Moor Street and Railway Road have been cordoned off. Some market traders have been relocated, but the market is open as usual."
