But sadly, despite best efforts, he was confirmed dead a short time later. Following the tragedy at 3.15pm on Wednesday, July 26, the leisure centre has been closed to the public.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service told BlackCountryLive: "A man has died after an incident at the Aldersley Leisure Village off Hugh Porter Way in Wolverhampton.

"West Midlands Ambulance Service received a call at 3.15pm on Wednesday afternoon. The Midlands Air Ambulance from Strensham, which had been in the air at the time, was first on scene and was backed up by two land ambulances, a paramedic officer and the Hazardous Area Response Team.

"On arrival, crews found a man beside a large ride on lawn mower. Unfortunately he had suffered very significant injuries.

"He received advanced trauma care at the scene, but sadly, despite all efforts, it was not possible to save him and he was confirmed dead at the scene."

WV Active shared a statement about the incident on Facebook yesterday.

They said: "Please be advised that WV Active-Aldersley will be closed today and tomorrow (Thursday and Friday) following a tragic incident involving a member of staff who very sadly passed away yesterday.

"The thoughts of everyone at WV Active are with our colleague’s family and friends at this very sad time. We will update you on the reopening of the leisure centre in due course.

"In the meantime, please remember that, as members of WV Active, you can use our other facilities at WV Active Central and WV Active Bilston-Bert Williams."

Wolverhampton Council and West Midlands Police have been approached for comment.
