Dalvin Cook's New York Jets arrival leads to 'worrying' questions

New York Jets running back Michael Carter looked dejected as he spoke about the team signing Dalvin Cook.

One of the best back's in the league, Cook has joined the team on a one-year deal with the team looking to compete for a Super Bowl after trading for Aaron Rodgers.

Some questioned whether the Jets would even need Cook after already having a loaded running back room with explosive second-year pro Breece Hall, along with Carter, Abanikanda and Zonovan Knight.

But with Cook signing, he is sure to take carries away from the rest of the team - likely being the number one option after what he'd shown in recent years with the Minnesota Vikings.

And while the move will be sure to make his team improve, it will hamper Carter's progression - and he knows it.

Just two days ago, Carter insinuated that the Jets did not need to sign Cook. When asked about the team potentially signing him, he said: "We ignore it. Talk is cheap. Dalvin's a great player. Dalvin's probably one of the best college football running backs of all time.

"At the same time, we feel like we're great players, too. We're just young in our careers. We're all chasing greatness in terms of team and personal goals. Nothing but respect for Cook, but we're not really focused on that. We're just trying to get better and grind."

Interestingly, Carter spoke to the media again one the day that Cook signed, not looking overly pleased about the move.

He told reporters: "He's a great player. I got a call from coach... I respect it. What can I really think about other than he's coming, he's part of our team now. It's one of them... we're all going to come in and grind. I don't worry about it, really, at this point.

"I was told by coach that this wouldn't change anything for me... but it might. We don't really know at this point. All I can do is grind and let the chips fall where they may."

The Jets had been heavily favoured to land Cook throughout the last few weeks, after having him in for a visit earlier this month - with quarterback Aaron Rodgers hoping to see a deal done after restructuring his own contract to give the team more flexibility.
