Everybody knows what a can of Coca-Cola looks like, whether you enjoy the beverage or not. The full sugar version is easily recognisable with its stand-out red can and classic Coke branding. In fact, the power of its marketing is so strong, that when you look at an image of it that contains no red, your brain still automatically fills in the gaps for you, showing you the full colour Coke can.
Sharing the mind-boggling illusion with Coke fans, Dean Jacksson took to his TikTok account @beatonthebeeb, to show an image of a Coca-Cola can that was covered in striped lines. He said: "There is no red in this picture at all."
"Surrounding grey with this sort of colour makes your brain susceptible to interpreting it as red", Dean explained. "And knowing the colour of a Coke can can exaggerate this further."
To put it simply, given we already know the colour of the can, our brains do the rest of the work for us to help us to identify it - showing that Coca-Cola branding is just that strong.
Baffled, someone commented on the video: "This is hurting my brain because half the can looks red but half looks grey", and another insisted that there must actually be some red in the image because they could see it so clearly. Another TikToker asked: "Why is only the right side red for me?"

Meanwhile, someone else said added: "I can see red no matter how many times I look away and back." And someone asked a philosophical question on everyone's lips: "So, a person who has never seen Coca-Cola will not see the red we see?"
