NINETIES pop legends The Rembrandts look unrecognisable 25 years after the smash hit that ‘ruined their career’.

They're the band behind Friends' iconic theme tune, I’ll Be There for You, which was released in 1995.

But they struggled to recreate the song's success and went on hiatus in 2001.

18 years on, thought, band members Phil Solem and Danny Wilde got back together in 2019 and dropped their comeback album, Via Satellite.

While their one-hit-wonder was everywhere thanks to the NBC sitcom, they weren't as keen on the show as one might think.

Danny told The Guardian this year, “We didn’t want anyone to know we’d sold out. But the song stuck, the show stuck and it snowballed.

"The record company rushed us into the studio to cut a full version. We shot a video on the SNL set, with the cast goofing around on our instruments.”

He claimed their names weren't even listed in the credits initially, but royalties put his children through college and bought them a "beautiful home".

The musician added, "We were snobby about it early on and it messed with our heads. But what a gift it’s been. I might be living on the streets if it wasn’t for that song."

Some might not know the track was actually the second choice for Friends' opening.

R.E.M.’s infectiously catchy tune Shiny Happy People was almost used for the opening credits.

The song was even trialled when the sitcom was still in its production and pilot stages.

Back when the comedy was still called Friends Like Us, the characters were introduced along with the much-loved R.E.M. classic.

It was only when producer Kevin Bright made a new suggestion that the song was switched out.

As Kevin was a fan of the Rembrandts, he put forward I’ll Be There For You as an option.

The production team must've agreed with him, as history was then made.
