Harvey Elliott has lauded Dominik Szoboszlai's superb work rate and hopes the new signing will remain at Liverpool for "many years".

Szoboszlai, 22, joined the Reds from RB Leipzig in a £60million deal earlier this summer. The Hungary international has started and completed both of Liverpool's Premier League games this season, helping them beat Bournemouth 3-1 in their most recent outing.

Szoboszlai is known for being a creative midfielder, but Elliott is also a huge admirer of his ability to get up and down the pitch. Liverpool were often criticised for lacking 'legs in midfield' last season, as they finished a below-par fifth in the Premier League.

Jurgen Klopp has also lost five midfielders this summer in Fabinho, Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, James Milner and Jordan Henderson. The latter was a particular blow, as his work rate in the middle of the park helped Klopp win trophies on Merseyside.

Yet Elliott believes Szoboszlai can fill the void. "He (Szoboszlai) is a great guy as well as a great player, there's no doubt about that," Elliott told Liverpool's website. "The game against Bournemouth, I think he showcased his quality in many different aspects.

"I think in the 90th-something minute he was still bombing forward and running like it was the first minute of the game. It's nice to have that kind of player in the team. And especially him being young as well, let's hope he can keep doing it for many years.

"He's going to keep growing as a person and as a player. It's just down to us to make sure he's settling in OK and he's getting used to his surroundings and making sure he's at home. We can clearly see he's got the quality and the ability. We just want him to do very, very well."

Szoboszlai has a fine CV. He won four Austrian Bundesliga titles and three Austrian Cups during his time at Red Bull Salzburg. He was also named the Austrian Bundesliga's Player of the Season in 2020 after scoring nine goals and providing 14 assists in the league.

The Hungary captain joined Leipzig in January 2021 but was forced to wait until the following season to play due to a long-term injury. He flourished on his return to action, helping Leipzig win back-to-back German Cups to gain Liverpool's attention

Szoboszlai has 12 German Bundesliga and 16 Austrian Bundesliga goals to his name, but it's his assist record that is really impressive. The exciting talent has already chalked up 73 assists during his career, including 13 last season.
