There are a lot of things to consider when getting ready for a job interview - what to wear, how much research to do, and what questions to ask. And it seems these days lots of employers put as much emphasis on your skills for the role as they do when considering if you will be a good fit for the team.
With this in mind, one recruiter has shared some “psychological tricks” to help you come off more likeable during the meeting. Going by the name Recruiter Clio on TikTok, the talent scout regularly posts videos offering her insight into different areas of recruitment.
In one of her clips, the tech headhunter admits: “They didn't teach you this in school, so I'm gonna tell you about it. Here are some truths about the laws of attraction that no one ever talks about and that help you pass interviews.
“Doing these are psychological tricks that help you become more likable. And I mean, who doesn't want to be more likable? Remember, use these tricks to help complement your skills and experience. That is the only way this is going to work. And don't come for me. This is just what I've seen from the years of experience I've had in recruiting.
The first one is enthusiasm. This is you showing your level of interest, and this can be shown either mentally or physically. If you're an enthusiastic person, there's just something about you that's positively contagious, and it's just a genuine energy.

“The second one is confidence. If you can walk in that room with your head held high, good posture, dressed professionally, with a smile on your face, you're just showing everybody that you're capable and prepared. It's really crazy. Confidence can take you very, very far.”
Clio went on: “Speaking of being prepared, finally know the details of your interviewers and the company. You should know who you're talking to, and you should have already done some research on the company so that you can confidently talk about their products, services, etc. When you have these details about your interviewer or the company, it shows that you've prepared, which then shows your level of interest."
She then concluded: “So remember, aside from interviewers assessing your skills and experience during the interview, they're also assessing your body language, your attitude, your energy, all while you're talking about yourself.”
People were delighted with Clio’s advice, with one person also asking, “What’s the best way to illustrate enthusiasm via zoom if you’re naturally low energy?” To which she responded by saying, “Don’t be afraid to show excitement and deep interest. Smile, engage, speak positively, and even share some of your personality.”
Another person commented on her suggestion to research the company and the people interviewing you, writing: “Listen to her. I had a candidate mansplain an IT system that I taught for four years. He never did research on me or he would have known not to do that.”
