Amber Heard reportedly didn't give Elon Musk permission to share an intimate cosplay photo of her.
The actress, 37, dressed up as video game character Mercy from Overwatch in a costume that took two months to make. She dated the Tesla billionaire, 52, seven years ago and dressed up as the character after Elon said she reminded him of her. He then posted a picture of his ex girlfriend in the outfit to his 156 million followers on X - formerly Twitter - on Wednesday.
Amber enjoyed a brief, yet high-profile, romance with the billionaire inventor for a year following the collapse of her marriage to actor Johnny Depp in 2016. They split in August 2017 before reconciling a few months later before splitting for good a couple of months after that. However, it has been said Amber didn't give him permission to share the intimate snap years after they broke up.
A source told Page Six the photo was meant to stay "private" and that Amber "did not give permission to Elon to use the photo". In Elon's new biography, it has been revealed: "He told her that she reminded him of Mercy, his favorite character in the video game Overwatch. So she spent two months designing and commissioning a head-to-toe costume so she could role-play for him."
Elon responsed to a tweet about the incident, where he confirmed: "She did dress up as Mercy. It was awesome." He also provided photographic evidence and posted a pic of Amber in her costume. She dressed up in a white corset, wings and a halo. The former couple reportedly first met back in 2013 on the set of the violent thriller Machete Kills in which Amber starred as beauty pageant contestant Blanca Vasquez and Musk had a cameo as himself.
Elon Musk makes history by becoming the first person in the world to lose $200bnThe two remained friends after their stint as co-stars and it wasn’t until Amber's marriage with Johnny Depp came to a crashing end that the pair began to grow closer and began a romantic relationship. They kept the relationship mostly out of the spotlight until their split in August 2017, when they both opened up about the end of their romance.
In a post on Instagram, Amber wrote: "Being in the public eye means having to explain yourself to so many people, so much of the time. In this case, I'd like to remain more quiet. Although we have broken up, Elon and I care deeply for one another and remain close. Thank you for the continued support, respect, and privacy during these difficult, very human times."
Elon added his own statement, revealing they had struggled to make their long distance relationship work. He wrote: "Just to clear up some of the press storm this weekend, although Amber and I did break up, we are still friends, remain close and love one another. Long distance relationships when both partners have intense work obligations are always difficult, but who know what the future holds."
The pair seemed to start a friendship after their split, as speaking to The Hollywood Reporter Amber said: "Elon and I had a beautiful relationship, and we have a beautiful friendship now, one that was based on our core values. Intellectual curiosity, ideas and conversation, a shared love for science. We just bonded on a lot of things that speak to who I am on the inside. I have so much respect for him. He's not boring."
