Los Angeles Rams running back Cam Akers admitted he was "confused" after being listed as inactive for Sunday’s NFL game.
The Rams were taking on the San Francisco 49ers in their Week Two game of the 2023 NFL regular season. Head coach Sean McVay was looking to guide the team to their second win of the season against their NFC West divisional rivals.
Prior to the game against the Niners, though, news emerged that Akers had been listed as inactive for the game at the SoFi Stadium. This was despite Akers playing a key role in the Week One win over the Seattle Seahawks.
Akers was the starting running back against the Seahawks. He scored one touchdown with 22 carries totalling for 29 rushing yards, but was listed as inactive for the game against San Francisco.
After news emerged that Akers had been listed as inactive, the running back himself took to social media to break the silence. In a rather cryptic post, Akers admitted that he was “confused” by the decision from the Rams organisation.

"I'm just as confused as everybody else,” Akers wrote on Twitter before the Rams vs. Niners game kicked off. “I'm blessed though."
The Rams did not report that Akers had sustained any kind of injury prior to Sunday’s game. As a result, there has been speculation that the Rams could look to trade the running back in the near future.
According to Fox Sports, the Rams would like to trade Akers before the deadline on October 31. It remains to be seen whether or not Akers’ future will be resolved before the Week Three game against the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday, September 25.
No specific team has been listed as showing an interest in trading for Akers. He is not the only running back to have an uncertain future, with Jonathan Taylor at the Indianapolis Colts still having question marks over if and when he will return to the field from the PUP list. Meanwhile, it took until late in the off-season for the New York Giants and the Las Vegas Raiders to reach agreements on contracts with Saquon Barkley and Josh Jacobs, respectively, after the duo were each handed the franchise tag.
In Akers’ absence, the Rams turned to second-year running back Kyren Williams as the starter against the Niners. In the Week One opener against the Seahawks, Williams amassed 52 rushing yards from 15 carries and scored two touchdowns, replacing Akers as a starter after just one game.
