Nespresso machines have become popular kitchen accessories giving shoppers access to quick quality coffee at home. The brand is one of the most sought after thanks to its range of eye-catching coffee capsules, but how does it fare in terms of value for money?
Nespresso offers a range of different coffee machines from its original espresso making Citiz machine to the Vertuo Plus and Vertuo Magimix. All its machines offer different sizes of your everyday cuppa whether you fancy an espresso, double espresso, gran lungo, signature or a carafe.
Freqeuntly seen in home departments and online stores Nespresso is often pitted against brands including L'or, Beko, Breville and De' Longhi. So to see how it compares I put the Nespresso Vertuo Plus Magimix to the test and it's since become our top recommended affordable at-home machine here at Mirror Choice.
It's cheaper price points is a huge plus feature to mention, as the machine can often be found in the sale. This is what originally put me onto buying the machine in the first place as I came across an in-store deal in John Lewis, but there's nearly always a retailer offering some sort of discount on the model.
Amazon has currently cut the price from £150 down to £130 on the Plus model, but shoppers can also opt for the cheaper Nespresso Vertuo model which is currently reduced to £94 to £76 - the only difference between the two models is the automated 'one-touch' button on the plus model.
Save £135 on this luxury Hugo Boss robe that's now less than £35!I’ve used the Nespresso Vertuo machine every single day for nearly two year's now and it’s the best purchase I’ve ever made. As someone who used to spend a fortune on takeaway coffees, I’d urge every coffee lover to look into buying one of Nespresso’s machines.
A Mirror Choice coffee machine pick - The Vertuo Magimix
- Buy the Nespresso Vertuo Plus machine here.
Unlike other machines the Vertuo can make a whole range of different coffee. As the name suggests ‘Vertuo’ one click of the button can make an espresso, full mug, alto or a 150ml gran lugo mug full.
And making one is simple, all you have to do is fill the attached water tank up, pop in a pod and press the mug button. Depending on the pod size and type determines how long it takes to heat up, but it’s never longer than two minutes from the moment the first click is made.
The one benefit of the machine I've noticed is its simple and sleek design, not only does this boost the look of my worktop but it’s so easy to do. The Vertuo Magimix has an electronic lid (that you open to pop the capsules in), press up and wait for it to automatically open or close.
Having looked at the normal Vertuo machine this feature is definitely a luxury ‘must-have’ as the standard Vertuo Next machines have to be manually shut and closed with a lever.
There's a money-saving hack to buying Nespresso pods
Having a Nespresso subscription will give you discounts on your monthly coffee.
Initially this wasn’t something I was going to do but after doing a little digging it worked out a lot cheaper for me. As a house we pay £30 a month, but this doesn’t necessarily have to be spent on coffee pods. The balance goes as credit on your account and can be used to get discounts on accessories, machines and of course coffee pods.
I’ve found the best way is to use it towards coffee pods, £30 a month gets us seven sleeves of coffee, which each has 10 pods in. Between the two of us this gives us two coffees a day each for the whole month. In the run up to Christmas I also use our pre-paid subscription credit points to stock up on gifts for friends and family as you can get 10 to 20% discount on accessories.
To put into context how much you save a single sleeve, with 10 pods, goes for around £6 on the Nespresso site with some limited edition flavours costing as much as £7.10 a sleeve (again with 10 pods). If I were to buy secent sleeves straight from the site at an average of £6 each it would cost £42, where as I pay £30 a month for the same amount on the subscription.
Having looked at rival coffee brands we're yet to come across an at home coffee brand that offers discounts on its pods when bought in bulk and it's the main reason we've chosen the brands as a top Mirror Choice pick.
Aldi's bestselling and 'affordable' fitness equipment event starts today!Other recommendations for coffee lovers
Starting off with the cheaoer alternative to the Vertuo Plus machine our other picked product from Nespresso is the standard Vertuo by Magimix machine. It is currently on sale at Amazon for £79.
Onto accessories and we'd pick the Nespresso Aeroccino Milk Forther to sit alongside either of these two Vertuo machines, to add an extra layer of luxury to your morning coffee. You can brose the various colour options online at Nespresso, where it retails for £99.
Moving onto different brands and we'd recommend the Breville Hot + Cold Coffee Machine, which we have previously tried out for ourselves. As our reviews Editor Stacey Dutton said: "The easy fill filter for the coffee is brilliant, and the speedy, iced latte making option is a great extra bonus to owning a Breville coffee maker.
"It is so much more refreshing to make an iced latte in the summer months."
