Piercings on children is quite a divisive topic, as some parents commend kids for wanting to express themselves while others recoil at the idea. Meagan Black, who lives in Illinois in the US, has hit back at trolls who have criticised her for letting her nine-year-old daughter get her nose pierced.
The mum-of-four regularly posts videos of her family on her TikTok account @megz_nichole217, and her daughter features regularly. In a recent video, Meagan recalled one of the cruel comments she had received from trolls: "You're a bad mum for letting your nine-year-old have a nose piercing".
Under the video, she wrote the caption: "But why is it just 'so cute' when a two-year-old is wearing a crop top but y’all flip over a nose ring?"

The video has now been seen by more than 997k people, and it's safe to say it's divided opinions.
Some commenters have said nine is "way too young" to get a nose piercing and expressed worry about "healing" and "keeping it clean" at that age.

One person said: "Personally I think nine is way to young, I'd let them get it in middle school but you do you!!"
"I got a nose piercing myself but nine is a bit too early because the nose hasn't fully grown yet," another added.
A third commented: "Nine really is a bit young. I think the youngest I'd let my child do this would be 13/14.
"You're not a bad mum and if I was your child and I've been begging for it I'd be very happy, but I'd be too afraid that they'd regret it later or that their nose isn't completely grown yet."
However, others praised Meagan for letting her daughter get her nose pierced, with one person saying: "I think it's awesome you’re letting your kids express themselves."
Another said: "I don't think she's a bad mum. Who cares? She can do what she wants with her daughter, it's not our business."
A third simply added: "Nothing wrong with it."
In a separate video, Meagan and her daughter answered some questions about the nose piercing, and she explained the reason behind it.
Meagan said: "I let her get her nose pierced because she does not like earrings. She says that they are ugly and all she wanted was her nose pierced. So, in Illinois, where we live, a minor can get a piercing with parent consent and there is no age restriction."
She also asked her daughter: "Did you want the piercing or did I force you?"

The daughter replied: "I wanted it."
