Police have issued a new update after a Land Rover smashed into a Wimbledon primary school in July, killing two eight-year old girls. Youngsters Nuria Sajjad and Selena Lau died, and seven others were hospitalised after the vehicle reportedly careered into a building where children were enjoying an end-of-term tea party nearby.

A 46-year old woman, who was at the wheel of the Range Rover and arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving has now been re-bailed until January, according to the Met Police. A statement on Saturday read: "Detectives from the Met’s serious collision unit are continuing to investigate a collision at the Study Prep School in Camp Road, Wimbledon on Thursday July 6. A 46-year-old woman from Wimbledon has been bailed until January 2024."

It continued: "Inquests into the deaths of eight-year-olds Nuria Sajjad and Selena Lau were opened and adjourned at Inner West London Coroner’s Court on Tuesday July 12. Their families continue to request privacy at this difficult time. No other victims remain in hospital."

At the time of her death, Nina's distraught family released the following statement, via Metropolitan Police, in which they described the youngster as the "light of our lives". "It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved Nuria on Sunday, 9 July 2023. Nuria was the light of our lives. She embodied joy, kindness and generosity and she was loved by all around her," the family said.

"We would like to thank the efforts of the emergency services, all the extraordinary staff at St George’s Hospital, the parents of Nuria’s class fellows and staff of the Study Prep for all they have done to ease Nuria’s journey. We request that our privacy is respected at this difficult time."

And the family of Selena said: "Selena was an intelligent and cheeky girl adored and loved by everyone. The family wishes their privacy to be respected at this sad time." The incident, which saw the woman taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries, resulted in 35 police vehicles being deployed to the scene as officers worked with paramedics to give first aid to several of those hurt.
