Sir Michael Caine has mocked the film and TV industry’s implementation of intimacy coordinators on set during sex scenes.

The 90-year-old actor has been playing roles on the big and small screen since 1950 and says he is glad to be too old to be filming risqué material now he is in his twilight years. In the years cine the #MeToo movement began, TV and film productions have enlisted the help of intimacy coordinators to ensure that sex scenes are filmed in a dignified manner for the acting talent and to ensure everyone involved in the scenes is aware of what is expected, agreed and is fully consenting.

In a new interview while looking back across his career and the fact he has a new role in a film titled The Great Escaper. Asked for his thoughts on intimacy coordinators, Sir Michael hinted that he did not exactly agree with the new industry department.

He told the Daily Mail: "Really? Seriously? What are they? We never had that in my day. Thank god I’m 90 and don’t play lovers anymore is all I can say. In my day you just did the love scene and got on with it without anyone interfering. It’s all changed."

Explaining that the younger members of his family do warn him about why political correctness has become more necessary, the acting legend said: "But it’s dull. Not being able to speak your mind and not being able to call anyone 'darling'.

"I try but it’s hard. I like to learn from friends who are younger than me. Because as you get older, you inevitably think about dying, but as soon as you get grandchildren, your focus shifts. You think about them. You want to go on living because they are so much a part of you, and you want to live for ever to see what they do with their lives. You just want to keep going.”

Sir Michael is married to 76-year-old actress Shakira Caine and has two daughters, Dominique, 67 and Natasha, 50, and he has three grandchildren. The actor explained previously that he moved house to be closer to Natasha when she moved to London with her children.

He told the Guardian in 2021: "I'm going to get a smaller [house]. Because the grandchildren have all gone now. They're all growing up. So I'm going to move back to be nearer to them, where it's easier for them to visit. I'm going to move to Wimbledon. My daughter, Natasha, lives in Wimbledon."
