Buffalo Bills wide receiver Stefon Diggs wore custom eye black during Sunday's game againt the Washington Commanders in a tribute to his younger brother and Dallas Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs, who tore his ACL in practice this past week.
“Tre 7,” read the eye black under one eye, with the other, saying “5ever.”
Trevon Diggs will miss the rest of the 2023 NFL season in a devastating blow for the Cowboys and his own career. He has been crucial for Dallas getting takeaways, with 18 career interceptions.
Stefon Diggs is four years older than his brother and has taken on a protective role. After ESPN analyst Bart Scott made light of Trevon Diggs’ setback on TV, Stefon Diggs bit back on social media, calling Scott a clown and an "ol fake try to be funny a**."
Despite the brothers spending their early years in Maryland, Stefon Diggs grew up as a Cowboys fan, so Trevon Diggs is getting to live out one of his childhood dreams. They often watch each other's games when they aren’t playing. During the offseason, they train together in the backyard; a clip of them going head-to-head went viral on TikTok in May.
New England Patriots warned Mac Jones is "limited" as quarterback fined againTrevon Diggs sustained his injury during a one-on-one drill against a Cowboys receiver in training. He's thanked the outpouring he's received since the incident.
"Thank you for all the prayers and I appreciate everyone for checking on me!" he wrote a couple of days ago on X. "This is just God’s Plan. I will be back and better! "
Head coach Mike McCarthy has defended using the drill as a routine part of NFL practices.
"There's skill development that always goes on, especially with the limited time in training camp," McCarthy said on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas. "One-on-one drills are something that defensive backs and the receivers need. Everything you do in the passing game is based on time clock, so those reps are necessary. I don't see that drill as a drill of high risk. It's just one of those unfortunate things that happen when two guys are competing for the ball. That can happen in any drill."
Wearing his tribute against the Commanders on Sunday, Stefon Diggs got off the a productive start. He made an impressive, improvised 30-yard reception downfield, abandoning his planned short route to go go deep when he noticed quarterback Josh Allen scrambling from the pocket.
The Bills pass catcher has always been a thorn in Washington's side. Entering Sunday's game, he averaged 111.8 yards per game against the organisation.
