When it comes to hair, many people say you always want what you don't have. Those with really thick, full locks are often jealous of those with fine, silky hair – while many of those with thinner strands wish they had a fuller head of hair.

There are definitely positives and negatives with both hair consistencies, but many agree that when it comes to putting your hair up in a bun, it looks better if you have thick hair.

One content creator has shared a hack for those with thin hair to create the illusion of having thick locks when they put it up in a bun.

Mum-of-one Lilia Tsangalidou shared the 'thin hair messy bun' on TikTok with her 125.3k followers, and the video has since gone viral, with over 2.3m views.

In the video, Lilia can be seen making a high pony tail and fastening it using a chunky, silk scrunchie. After securing it in place she flips her hair forward and places another, thinner, hair tie around it, so it folds around the silk scrunchie.

With her her still flipped forward, she sections it into two, twists the two bunches with her fingers, and then fastens them together using a tiny hair tie at the front. Twisting it will ensure that the two bunches still remain separate, but tied together at the front.

Lilia then flips the two bunches around once, so they are crossing each other, lifts it up and places it around the bun. At the end she used two hair grips to secure the bun in place.

The mum showed off the bun, which looked noticeably fuller than the first one where she just put it up with one hair tie.

One user said that both the thin and full bun looked nice on her, but "I'm definitely going to try this idea, thanks!".

Some people called the hack "genius", while another said: "Love it!" and a third added: "I like the trick."

There's also a particular technique for how you wash your hair in the shower.
