Police have launched an urgent CCTV appeal after a woman was knocked unconscious and left needing plastic surgery in a shocking single-punch restaurant attack.

CCTV footage of the incident shows the woman sat outside the Trades Hotel in Blackpool as a group of people pass by. One of them then approaches her and launches into the vicious attack, which sends her falling to the ground.

The victim, 61, was punched so hard she lost a tooth and was knocked out while sustaining a serious injury, reports Lancs Live. She also suffered a deep head wound in the fall, which has not healed almost a month later.

Distressing images released by police show a large, bloody wound on the woman's scalp. Lancashire Constabulary said the attack in the early hours of September 10 was triggered by the group being challenged, after one of them hit a car as they walked down the street in the seaside town.

Officers have now shared the footage as they hope to track down the man responsible for inflicting the woman's injuries. They have asked anyone who recognises the man from the CCTV, has had the incident mentioned to them or have overheard any details to come forward.

A force spokesperson said: "An investigation has been ongoing ever since, but we now need your help. We appreciate nobody’s faces can be seen in the CCTV, but there were several people in the group who will have information about who was responsible."

DC Laura Parry, of Blackpool CID, added: “This was a really nasty incident, as you can see from the images of the victim’s head injury. We appreciate that the video and images with this appeal are quite distressing, but we think it is important we share them as it might help us track down the person responsible.

"Perhaps you think you recognise them from the CCTV, perhaps somebody has mentioned this to you or perhaps you’ve heard someone talking about it. Whatever information you have, please let us know. Nobody should be met with this level of aggression and violence while simply trying to enjoy a night out.”
