The French took the lead after just three minutes via Cyril Baille's converted try, but the Springboks hit back for 7-7 just moments later through Kurt-Lee Arendse.

South Africa completed their quick turnaround on 19 minutes, with Damian de Allende scoring, although Manie Libbok was unable to convert.

When Peato Mauvaka scored on 23 minutes, France had a chance to regain the lead when Thomas Ramos stepped up to convert.

Incredibly his attempt was BLOCKED by Kolbe, who achieved a feat scarcely seen in the professional game.

His block left fans on social media aghast, with one tweeting: "I’ve never seen that in rugby before. Kolbe is God."

While a second gushed: "Cheslin Kolbe is a mad man. How good was that charge down?"

A third swooned: "It's a master piece from @CheslinKolbe."

Another added: "This was nothing short of brilliant."

Blocking an opposing team's conversion is addressed in rugby Law 8.14.

The rules state: "All opposing players retire to their goal-line and do not overstep that line until the kicker begins the approach to kick.

"When the kicker does this, they may charge or jump to prevent a goal but must not be physically supported by other players in these actions.

"The team must not shout during a conversion attempt."

Kolbe's interception went on to be a crucial one - with South Africa going on to win by just ONE point - beating the hosts 29-28.

They will face England in the semi-finals next week, a repeat of the 2019 final.
