Frustrated Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney hit out at 'handsome' Wrexham rival

Wrexham owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney joked they wished Notts Country striker Macaulay Langstaff would "f*** off" as he threatened to derail the Welsh club's promotion hopes.

Langstaff scored a staggering 42 goals in the National League last season - but it wasn't enough to stop Wrexham winning the league. Notts County would later be promoted via the play-offs having lost 3-2 to their rivals in a crucial game at the end of the campaign.

Wrexham's nerve-wracking end to the season was captured in the Welcome to Wrexham series and in one episode, Reynolds and McElhenney are shown discussing Langstaff before the game. McElhenney did not hold back, saying, "Marcualy Langstaff, he can f*** off!" as Reynolds responded: “Yeah, god, that guy is good. He is handsome as f**k. He looks like he could be in Peaky Blinders.”

The latest episode of the series captured the emotions of the fanbase and the team's owners. Before the start of the match, Reynolds and McElhenney were shown looking out to an empty field and jokingly saying, "'Is it too late to switch our allegiances and do a docu-series just to cover Notts? It's an amazing story." Reynolds seemed to embrace the atmosphere as he said, "I have never in my life been this wound up for a match."

John Bostock opened the scoring for Notts County with a free-kick just before half-time but second-half goals from Paul Mullin and Jacob Mendy swung the game in Wrexham's favour. Kyle Cameron equalised for the visitors before Elliott Lee struck the winner for Wrexham with 12 minutes remaining.

Notts County had a golden opportunity to level after Eoghan O’Connell was penalised for a handball but Ben Foster saved Cedwyn Scott's penalty and Wrexham hung on to take another step towards promotion. For McElhenney and Reynolds, it is a match they will look back on fondly as they hailed the match as one of the greatest moments of their lives. Reynolds said, “ It felt like a classic Wrexham moment.”

Wrexham beat Notts County 2-0 last weekend as the two sides find themselves involved in another battle for promotion. County sit second, five points behind League Two leaders Stockport while Wrexham are third having scored a goal fewer than their rivals.
