Aaron Ramsdale "very frustrated" as Mikel Arteta prediction made at Arsenal

Aaron Ramsdale has been tipped to take his place back on the substitutes bench for Arsenal's trip to Newcastle on Saturday evening by club legend Ray Parlour.

The Gunners goalkeeper was handed a rare start away at West Ham in the Carabao Cup fourth round on Wednesday evening. However, he hardly put in the kind of display that will have boss Mikel Arteta stewing over who to put between the sticks at St. James' Park

His lowest moment came during the Hammers' third goal of their 3-1 win, as though Jarrod Bowen's strike did take a slight tough off of Jakub Kiwior, Ramsdale should have got a strong enough hand to it but instead was left picking the ball out of his own net.

It has been a difficult campaign for Ramsdale, who started the season as No. 1 only to lose his spot to Brentford loanee David Raya, who also hasn't convinced at times. Parlour has had his say on the debate dominating Arsenal discourse and predicted who'll line up in goal against the Magpies.

"Aaron Ramsdale started against West Ham but I don’t think Mikel Arteta will pick him against Newcastle, he’ll stick with David Raya," Parlour told bettingsites.co.uk. "Aaron will be very frustrated. He’s been really good since he’s been at the club, he’s a big personality in the dressing room, which is important."

The former Gunner went on to add: "I don’t like the situation but I’m not Mikel Arteta. I don’t know what goes on in training or behind the scenes and that’s a big decision he’s had to make in sticking with Raya.

"But you’ve got to be ruthless in management. Pep Guardiola always has been in his career and I’m sure Mikel would have picked up some of that from him."

Arteta discussed Ramsdale's display at the London Stadium after the game and was asked about how his 'keeper responded to jeers from the home crowd every time he touched the ball. It has been claimed previously that the Arsenal manager has been left frustrated with Ramsdale's habit of going long whenever he's under pressure.

The Gunners boss kept his cards close to his chest as he replied: "That is the situation. Obviously, the crowd can react in the way that they do, every player tries to do their best and that's it."

Only time will tell who Arteta does go with in goal and whether Palour's prediction comes true, but Ramsdale can't have many complaints if he is back on the bench after Wednesday's display.
