But he left a smile on the faces of onlookers as he made his final journey towed by a perfect replica of Del Boy's motor.

The IT expert was obsessed with the classic TV comedy - visiting shows in London and even basing his stag-do theme on the show.

Peter was transported in a yellow hearse fashioned as Trotter’s Independent Traders’ three-wheel van.

His wife Suzanne revealed she would have previously had to endure a Reliant Regal as her wedding car - if one was available at the time.

She said: “Only Fools and Horses played such a big part in Peter’s life. The house was filled with memorabilia.

"We would have had the Reliant Regal as our wedding car, so it only felt fitting for his last journey to be in it instead.”

Nurse Suzanne, 38, said the unique funeral couldn't have gone better, adding: "Peter would have loved it too.”

Lifelong Saints fan Peter died suddenly while taking a run at a local park in June.

His pals paid tribute online, writing: "You were a real genuine good guy who quite honestly wouldn’t hurt a fly."

Another friend added: "Peter was one if the world's nicest and most genuine people I ever knew and we will miss him."

Co-op funeral director Grace Best said: "It was so rewarding to be able to help Peter’s family give him the funeral he deserved and would have wanted himself, that was personal to them.

“Non-traditional funerals are becoming increasingly popular as many realise that a personalised ceremony is such a great way to say goodbye to loved ones and feel connected to them.

"Opting for something a little different can help ease the daunting atmosphere often linked with the occasion, making it less intimidating and helping many in their grieving journey.

"Peter’s funeral exemplified this perfectly, a true reflection of his character and sense of humour which helped put a smile on people’s faces as they said their goodbyes."
