Sheffield United midfielder Tom Davies has cut off his traditional long blonde hair in an attempt to raise money for male suicide charity James' Place.

The 25-year-old moved to Bramall Lane on a free transfer in the summer following his departure from Everton. Davies spent 14 years at Goodison Park after coming through the club's academy, making his first-team debut in 2016. But following a bright start to his Toffees career, Davies had struggled for game time in recent years and left the club at the end of his contract in the summer.

Davies, who made a total of 179 senior appearances for Everton, joined newly-promoted Blades on a three-year deal back in August. The former England Under 21 international made his debut as a second-half substitute in the dramatic 2-1 defeat at Tottenham last month, before coming off the bench against Newcastle and West Ham.

But during the international break, Davies has been doing something slightly different. He shaved off his famous long blonde locks and instead donned a shorter trim to raise money for charity. Davies recorded his time on the barber's chair and also posted a selfie of the new look.

Davies wrote on social media: "Well here it is, I'm raising money for @jamesplaceuk who help save lives of men in suicidal crisis, with free life-saving treatment in their centres.

"Since opening in 2018, James' Place has treated over 1,500 suicidal men, delivering over 7,500 therapy sessions providing hopeful futures to men that felt like they didn’t have them. The fundraiser is still going so if you can donate it will go a long way the link is in my bio! Thank you all again for the donations so far and let me know what you think of my new look for mental health!"

He also posted the link to the JustGiving page which followers can donate as Davies tries to reach £1000. But the midfielder's target was reached quickly, with Davies returning to social media to thank those for their support. He added: "Thank you to everyone who has donated. Your support is beautiful!!

"We have already reached the goal but @jamesplaceuk needs all the help they can get so if still can help them with donations, it will go a very long way and help a lot of men across the UK."

Davies may not feature on the pitch for around four months after picking up an injury before the international break. Speaking about the issue, Davies said: "It's not been a great start to the season for myself and I have unfortunately picked up another injury.

"It's been a really hard time for me and I’m doing my best to find some peace with the situation. While this has happened it's made me realise how much I need to pay attention to my mental health as well as my physical."
