Will Smith is “enjoying the attention” after his surprise split from wife Jada Pinkett, a body language expert has said.
Fans of the couple, regarded by many to have the strongest marriage in Hollywood, were left stunned when Jada revealed in a recent interview that she and Will had in fact been separated since 2016. “We’re still figuring it out,” the Girls Trip star told People. “We’ve been doing some really heavy-duty work together. We just got deep love for each other and we are going to figure out what that looks like for us.”
She later confirmed that she and Will, who share children Jaden and Willow, as well as Will’s son Trey, from his first marriage, were “working hard” to get their marriage back on track, and documented details of their relationship in her new memoir Worthy. During a promotional event in Baltimore for the upcoming book, Will surprised the audience by taking to the stage to make a speech in honour of his estranged wife, and said their union was a “sloppy public experiment in unconditional love”.

“As I stand here before you today, I am happier than I’ve ever been in my entire life … I have achieved every single thing I have ever wanted in my entire life,” he said, according to the Baltimore Sun. “I just really wanted to come out and just be here and hold it down for you the way you have held it down for me.”
Nearly half of Brits admit they care too much about celebrity news, study findsBody language expert Judi James believes that Will had an ulterior motive while speaking at the event, which was to promote Jada’s new book, and is enjoying the attention he’s received since his estranged wife made her shocking claims. “Will is clearly appearing here to support his wife but there is a familiar look to his body language that suggests he is actually enjoying the attention these current revelations are giving him,” she began.
“Will often looks like a big kid who still adores showing off when there is a camera around and with his brows raised, his mouth wide open and the mic firmly in his hand here it looks like very little has changed. He could be one of Jada’s children and she does appear to gaze up at him like a proud adoring mum,” Judi explained.
She continued: “There is a clue to this dynamic from Will’s comments about ‘unconditional love’ which is traditionally something you only get from your parents. His behaviour during the social media video they posted unwrapping the first copies of her book saw him in a similar role. While Jada spoke seriously about the hard work it had taken, Will jumped about behind her with the other kids, mugging to camera and using a series of attention-seeking behaviours to suggest he wasn’t taking all the dramas about to unfold too seriously.”
