A PERSON has died after being pulled from the water at Keynsham Memorial Park in Bristol.

Emergency services rushed to the park on January 3 to rescue the person from the freezing water.

Avon and Somerset Police responded to reports that a member of the public had seen someone in the water at the park.

Avon Fire and Rescue service also attended the incident to help bring the person to shore.

Sadly the person was pronounced dead at the scene by the ambulance crew.

The temperature in Bristol around midday yesterday was just 11C, according to the Met Office, although it would have felt much colder in the water.

A spokesperson for the police force said the death is not being treated as suspicious and a file is being prepared for the coroner.

The spokesperson said: "A member of the public called us at 11.55am today (January 3) to report they had seen a person in the water at Memorial Park, in Keynsham.

"Emergency services attended the scene and the fire service brought the person to shore.

"Sadly, the person was pronounced deceased at the scene. The death is not being treated as suspicious at this time.

"Officers will be making enquiries on behalf of the coroner to identify the deceased and their next of kin."

A spokesperson for Avon Fire and Rescue said: "We were called to Keynsham Memorial Park by police at 12.03pm today (January 3) with a request for our support to rescue a person in the water.

“Crews from Kingswood and Bedminster attended the incident and firefighters recovered one person from the water.

"Ambulance crews sadly pronounced the person deceased at the scene."
