Terrifying moment driverless ‘robot taxi’ swerves towards pedestrians

THIS is the moment a driverless 'robot taxi' swerves towards a pedestrian while helpless back-seat passengers filmed their journey.

In a video uploaded to TikTok by user ‘howbout’, the autonomous motor can be seen steering aggressively towards a pedestrian crossing before illegally reversing through a junction.

The footage, which is filmed on a busy street in San Francisco, shows how the car comes dangerously close to hitting a man as he crosses the road before suddenly braking.

One of the taxi’s passengers can be heard saying “I don’t want to be a beta tester” as the others nervously laugh at the absurdity of their situation.

The video is captioned with: "When going out out turned into seeing your life flash before your eyes."

The robot taxi then appears to reverse back the way it came as traffic around the car is forced to stop.

The passesnger filming the ordeal can then be heard screaming "we are in the junction" as the camera pans to the windows to show multiple other cars on the road.

Users on TikTok were left baffled by the footage.

One said: "This is actually so scary, what if you were on a faster road in moving traffic?"

Another simply added: "The car is possessed."

A third commented: "Why are these even legal?"

Another joked: "What could possibly go wrong?"

This comes after a recent report detailing how terrorists could hack into driverless cars and use them for mass casualty attacks in the UK.

Meanwhile, a trip on Britain’s first driverless bus was filled with heart-stopping moments.
