A LABOUR candidate sparked anger after appearing to use gravestones to hang an election campaign banner.

Photos showed a roadside poster of Darren Rodwell’s face — and two straps fixed to headstones in a cemetery behind it in Barking, East London.

Rodwell, current head of Barking Council, is bidding to be the local MP.

He posed for snaps with the banner – but hid how it was held in place.

Labour member Matt Lismore said he was “shocked” at how it was put up and took it down.

Matt wrote on X: “Tone deaf from Darren Rodwell to hang his election banner from people’s gravestones in Barking Abbey.

“As a Labour member I am shocked that he and his team could have thought that this was acceptable.

“Time and again he has shown us that he has no respect for the living residents in the borough, but to show no respect for the dead is a new low.”

Activist Matthew Goodwin-Freeman, of Harrow Conservatives, called it “disgraceful”, adding: “Labour should suspend him immediately.”

Mr Rodwell was approached for comment.
