Manchester United have laid a wreath by the statue of Sir Bobby Charlton outside Old Trafford, declaring him "a great player and even greater man".

One of England's and the club's greatest-ever players died on Saturday afternoon at the age of 86 with tributes pouring in for the legendary figure. Charlton was part of an incredible attacking trio that also included Dennis Law and George Best.

The trio, known as the Holy Trinity, have been immortalised outside United's ground and the club laid a wreath by the statue to show their respect with a powerful tribute to the man who, for years, was their greatest goalscorer.

The message on the wreath said: "In loving memory of Sir Bobby Charlton, a great player and even greater man. With deepest gratitude for your service, From everyone at Manchester United."

Charlton has long been a regular at Old Trafford and his presence will be sorely missed by many. United play for the first time following his passing on Saturday night when they take on Sheffield United at Bramall Lane.
