When was Mark Labbett on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?

Before being known for The Chase, Mark Labbett competed classic quiz show Who Wants To Be A Millionaire in 2006.

During the episode, he was keen to point out he was single, and told host Chris Tarrant he hoped his performance would boost his luck with the ladies.

Unsurprisingly Mark sailed through the initial few rounds, though had to use his first lifeline - Ask The Audience - at the £2K question, which was about knitting.

He the used his Phone a Friend lifeline to call his pal Mo, when he couldn't decide which fruit was the principal ingredient of a traditional tarte tatin (answer - apple).

Mark provided some much-loved Beast banter along the way, telling host Chris that he was a school teacher and the kids were always coming up with nicknames for him - with "King Kong" being one of them.

Mark continued: "Hulk, Godzilla - basically any time there's a monster flick, for some reason that's what my name becomes.

"I'm not even the tallest in my family - my little brother Phil is 6ft 8'."

He later admitted: "I can't intimidate the kids, but I can intimidate adults very easily."

Tarrant joked: "It's working for me!"

The Beast also admitted he would jack in teaching if he won the million pound prize.

How much did Mark Labbett win?

Unfortunately Mark stumbled at the £64K question, when Chris asked: "The best selling novel Miss Smilla's Feeling For Snow is set chiefly in which country?"

After much deliberation and using his 50-50 life line, he went for Canada, which was incorrect - the right answer was Denmark.

This meant he walked away with a not too shabby £32K.

Mark has since claimed that members of the audience often help contestants to "cheat", by "winking and nodding".

In 2020, he told the Daily Star: "I know of people who cheated on Millionaire far better than that by having fellow quizzers seated just behind Chris Tarrant in their eyeline."

Referring to Charles Ingram and his wife Diana who were accused of cheating during a recording of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire in 2001, he said: "If the Ingrams did cheat they cheated stupidly."

What other TV shows has Mark Labbett been in?

Mark Labbett is best known for his alter ego The Beast on The Chase.

He has been on ITV quiz show since 2009, and also appeared on US and Australian versions of the show.

Away from The Chase, Mark has also appeared on Sugar Free Farm.

Meanwhile, the genius worked as a maths teacher before he found fame.

It was during this time he took part in Mastermind twice - once in 199, and then again the following year.
