Champions League win in Sevilla marred as Arsenal suffer injury double blow

Arsenal needed to bounce back in the Champions League on Tuesday night, and Mikel Arteta's men did just that as they beat Europa League holders Sevilla in their own back yard.

Gabriel Martinelli struck just before half-time after being teed up by Gabriel Jesus, and the Brazilian striker went from provider to scorer after the break to make it 2-0. But Nemanja Gudelj pulled one back for the Spaniards, and the Gunners were forced to hold out amid a nervy finish.

Arteta's focus will now turn to a home game with Sheffield United on Saturday, as his side look to maintain their unbeaten start to the Premier League season. But the manager faces an anxious wait on the fitness of some of his key men.

Here are the latest headlines from the Emirates on Wednesday.....

Jesus limps off with hamstring injury

It was a mixed night for Gabriel Jesus in Spain, the forward finishing his night by limping off late on with a hamstring injury.

Jesus enjoyed a fine game, where he teed up Martinelli superbly for the Gunners' opener before bagging a goal of his own early in the second half, but was seen clutching at his hamstring in the closing stages. The 26-year-old walked off gingerly in the 81st minute as he was replaced by Eddie Nketiah.

Asked afterwards whether the substitution was precautionary, Arteta answered: "No. He felt something and asked to be subbed. It's not good news because Gabby is not the type of player to do that."

Partey set for spell on sidelines

Mikel Arteta has admitted that Thomas Partey could be set for a spell on the sidelines after picking up an injury on the eve of Arsenal's trip to Sevilla.

The Gunners flew out to face the La Liga outfit on Tuesday but Partey, 30, was a noticeable absentee from the matchday squad. When questioned about the Ghana international, Arteta explained that an injury sustained in training was the reason behind the omission.

“Thomas picked up an injury in training yesterday,” Arteta told TNT Sports in the build-up to the game. “We don't know the extent of it. Unfortunately, he's a big miss for us.”

Odegaard targeted by green lasers

Arsenal fans aired their frustrations on social media after Sevilla fans shone a green laser at the face of Martin Odegaard ahead of their Champions League clash.

The Gunners captain, 24, and his teammates were warming up at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium when the incident occurred. And away left furious after spotting fans targeting the face of Odegaard.

The incident, which quickly went viral, is identical to scenes involving Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk, who was also targeted by lasers as he waited to take a late penalty for the Netherlands earlier this month. He condemned the dangerous act after the match against Greece.
