A POPULAR motor used by families in the US has been shelved after sales for the vehicle plummeted.

The Hyundai Veloster N had for years been a stalwart choice for parents doing the school run, particularly in the US.

However, in the battle of four-wheel drives, the Veloster slowly started to be dismissed in favour of the Honda Civic Type R.

The Veloster has not been on sale in the UK for at least six years.

The asymmetrical three-door layout was also not favoured by the American public, with motorists siding with the more-capable Civic Type R's traditional four-door layout.

To compound that misery, Hyundai released the Elantra N and the Kona N, both of which boasts the same fundamentals as the Veloster, but which are designed in a format more in line with American tastes.

The Japanese manufacturer sold a paltry 1,942 units in 2021 versus the model's peak of 38,102 units in 2012 - representing a near 90% drop in sales.

And it was discontinued, not making an appearance in 2023.

Despite its fall from grace, the vehicle was once extremely popular for good reason.

The car's engine cranked out 275 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque.

Hyundai's Veloster also boasted a mighty 2.0-liter turbo-four reliably delivering giant-slaying performance.

A string of cars will also not see the year of 2024.

Huge brands such as Audi, Mercedes-Benz and Ferrari have decided to cull some cars in a key shake up of its strategy.

The highly popular Audi R8 will no longer be available come next year.

The rise of the 2023 GT RWD Model has meant that production of the R8 is reaching the end of the line after 16 years.

Meanwhile, the Audi TT will also be saying its goodbyes after surviving two and a half decades.
