Now fix this

RISHI Sunak’s Government will be judged not on its personalities but its results. The PM had better pray that his new team can deliver.

His two big decisions yesterday were highly controversial.

We get that axed Home Secretary Suella Braverman had become a loose cannon for No10.

But her bluntness, especially on small boat migrants and the feeble policing of hate marches, spoke for millions . . . even if she was perhaps better at highlighting problems than solving them.

David Cameron, meanwhile, may make a decent Foreign Secretary.

His astonishing return may even remind some floating voters why they handed his Tories a majority in 2015.

It is likely to remind others, in Red Wall seats especially, why they backed Brexit against his Remain campaign.

We doubt, though, that many much care who holds which Cabinet job. They are tired of the Tory soap opera. They just want our biggest problems fixed.

They want the cost of living and the highest tax burden in 70 years slashed. NHS waiting lists cut. Illegal immigration stopped, whatever it takes.

They want the Government to reimpose law and order, push back against a tide of wokery and end the sickening anti-Semitism rife at the Palestine marches.

We wish the new team luck. They have a mountain to climb, and precious little time.

EU meltdown

WHAT is it about the EU project Remain diehards still admire?

It can’t be its dwindling economic might. Its growth is as anaemic as ours. Its one-time powerhouse, Germany, is a basket case.

Now even “free movement”, the liberal-Left’s utopian dream, looks over too.

Eleven countries have put up borders to combat out-of-control immigration and a rising terror threat. And voters are increasingly shifting to the right.

It’s all just sad, misty-eyed nostalgia — and a petulant desire to reverse the defeat they can never get over.

Legend at rest

A VAST turnout of footballing royalty, actual royalty and thousands of fans tells its own story.

We can debate whether Sir Bobby Charlton was the greatest ever England player, though he probably was. There is no doubt he was the most loved.

Sir Bobby was a World Cup and European Cup winner — and England’s third highest scorer. But he was a perfect role model too . . . humble, thoughtful and decent. An icon and inspiration to generations of Man Utd players.

His moving funeral did him proud.

RIP Sir Bobby. You were a legend as a player — and as a man.
