Absolutely Fabulous actress Jane Horrocks praised hospital staff after she was involved in a nasty crash as she warned fans about dangerous black ice.

The Bubble character star fell off her bike on Wednesday as she hit the slippery surface while cycling in Brighton. The 59-year-old says the ordeal was a real "eye opener" as she thanked two strangers for helping her after the terrifying accident.

Taking to her X account, formally Twitter, the legendary sitcom star detailed the fall, writing: "Just fallen off my bike on black ice in Brighton. In A+E now. It's crazy busy. I haven't experienced A+E for a very long time and it's an eye opener."

"Be careful cyclists out there," she added. In another update to followers, Jane explained why she thinks the accident happened. "Maybe these accidents occur to say Slow Down. We do so little of that, that sometimes it takes something stronger to enforce rest. I'm grateful for the guidance," she explained.

"A lovely couple helped me when I fell. They got me a cup of tea and brought me home. Thank you to them and the lovely Scottish nurse who put my arm in plaster when all the other 'plasterers' had gone home."

It was last year that Jane accused TV bosses of "churning out" the same stars in leading roles, specifically calling out Sarah Lancashire. "I think it's a bit limiting for the audience to see the same crowd always coming on," she said at the time.

"I just feel sorry for the audience really that the commissioners and the producers are so short-sighted that they have to keep churning out the same people. They do an amazing job and if they're being offered the roles then, of course, you take them."

Jane played Bubble in Absolutely Fabulous, Jennifer Saunders' character Edina's personal assistant, starring alongside Joanna Lumley and Julia Sawalha. The first three series ran from 1992 to 1995, with a two-part series finale airing in 1996. Two more series and two 60-minute specials aired from 2001 to 2004. Three new episodes were released in 2011 and 2012 before Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie hit the big screen in 2016.

"Possibly I did the movie out of loyalty," Jane told The Mirror of the revival back in 2016. "It would seem churlish if I hadn’t been part of it. I would feel more confident now about saying, 'Actually I've done that. Thank you. But no thank you'."
