CBS Sports announcer Brad Nessler has surprised WWE fans, appearing on the latest Friday Night Smackdown.

The veteran sportscaster came on to promote the Army-Navy football game, which he would call the following day alongside on-air partner Gary Danielson.

Nessler, 67, joined WWE commentators John Layfield, Michael Cole, and Kevin Patrick live on Friday night.

And the four exchanged lots of pleasantries during the CBS announcer's cameo.

He lauded the SmackDown crew for their tributes to the troops over the years.

In exchange, Layfield offered Nessler a few kind words about his career.

"Brad and Gary Danielson are the best team in football in the last 20 years," Layfield said.

"What an honor is to have you."

Nessler's appearance left plenty of WWE fans confused, particularly as he joined the broadcast of a rival network with SmackDown being shown on Fox.

"My worlds are colliding and I haven't stopped laughing for the last 20 minutes," one wrote on X.

"You could've given me a thousand guesses who'd be at the desk tonight, and he'd never be a thought," another added.

"We need more of this honestly," a third said.

"What in the what?" one asked.

The Army Black Knights beat the Navy Midshipmen 17-11 at Gilette Stadium the following day.

CBS has been the broadcast partner of the Army-Navy game since 1996 while also starting showing college football games in the Southeastern Conference (SEC).
