One of the year’s most explosive blockbusters is heading to the small screen, as Oppenheimer drops on Blu-ray, DVD and streaming platforms. Christopher Nolan’s biopic caused a storm earlier this year when it went head-to-head with Greta Gerwig’s Barbie throughout their simultaneous theatrical release and can soon be enjoyed from the comfort of your own home.

The film stars Cillian Murphy as the titular J. Robert Oppenheimer, the American theoretical physicist known as the ‘father of the atomic bomb’. Based on the 2005 biography American Prometheus, it charts Oppenheimer’s rise and fall while centring around his leading role in developing the first nuclear weapons during World War II.

Oppenheimer boasts a star-studded ensemble cast including Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr., Florence Pugh, Josh Hartnett, Rami Malek, and Kenneth Branagh. The three-hour epic has made almost $950 million at the global box office, making it Nolan’s third-highest grossing film behind only The Dark Knight Rises and The Dark Knight.

The film is now heading to home cinemas with both a digital release and physical release. Nolan has said that “a lot of time and energy” went into assembling Oppenheimer’s Blu-ray edition, working on it for months trying to translate the photography and the sound as intended and preserving the film’s soundscape, Variety reported.
