SINGLE-sex spaces must be protected because there are “more people who are predators than there are trans people”, Kemi Badenoch said last night.

The Business Secretary told the Commons Equalities Committee that for years trans people “were living their lives peacefully” and “nobody had an issue”.

But now perverts are exploiting “loopholes” to access female only spaces, such as gym classes and toilets.

Ms Badenoch, who is also Equalities Minister, said: “It is the behaviour of people who are choosing to exploit rights given to transgender people because the definition is very loose that we are now having to look at what we can do in order to protect women and children who are the most vulnerable in those single-sex spaces.

“It is not easy, the ideal situation would have been if the predators had not chosen to exploit this loophole.”

The darling of the Tory right clarified she doesn’t think all trans people are predators.

But she added: "We need to think very carefully about how we draft legislation in order to protect all people.

“It is not an easy thing to do but that is what I'm working on."

At the committee Ms Badenoch blasted hard left Labour MP Kate Osborne for falsely accusing her of using “inflammatory language that likens children coming out as trans to the spread of a disease”.

In a fiery clash a furious Ms Badenoch hit back: “That is a lie and I think you should withdraw that statement.

“We have to use facts in this room, we can’t just make stuff up.”
