The NFL has been urged to postpone all games this weekend to prove the organisation cares about player safety in the wake of Damar Hamlin's cardiac arrest horror. Buffalo Bills star Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest during Monday Night Football against the Cincinnati Bengals.
The 24-year-old remains in a critical condition in the intensive care unit of the University of Cincinnati Hospital, though there is an overall sense of optimism over his condition.
Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest after taking a hit from Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins during the first quarter, and the game was suspended and then postponed. The NFL confirmed on Tuesday there was no date set for the postponed game to be resumed, while insisting games this weekend would continue as normal.
However, not everyone thinks that should be the case, with former Los Angeles Chargers and Dallas Cowboys quarterback Ryan Leaf calling for the league to postpone all games. In a tweet, Leaf insisted suspending games would be the only way to prove the league cares about player safety.
“If the (NFL) truly cared about the health, safety, and wellness of their players, there would be no reason not to postpone this weekend’s games," he tweeted. "Let’s see if you’re a part of the #NFLBrotherhood or just another cog in the corporate $$ printing machine!”

Leaf went on to expand on that belief while appearing on his podcast, The Straight Line, saying: "You can't ask the Buffalo Bills, without knowing how their teammates is doing, to go out and play a very meaningful football game against the New England Patriots."

The Bengals, meanwhile, will play their last scheduled game against the Baltimore Ravens, but quarterback Joe Burrow's mind is still on the events of Monday night.
Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, the young MVP contender said: "It was very, very scary. There's not a lot of clarity, a lot of rumours, a lot of stuff going around. It [has been a] very emotional 48 hours. Not a lot of words you can say about what happened."
