Jurgen Klopp is already a Premier League great in his own right, but the Liverpool boss has recently been compared to Manchester United icon Sir Alex Ferguson by Jamie Redknapp.

The Sky Sports regular was keen to heap huge praise on the Reds manager for the way that Klopp has transformed Liverpool into title challengers once again after a difficult season last term. The summer transfer window hardly made things easier, with key figures like Jordan Henderson, Roberto Firmino and Fabinho all leaving for Saudi Arabia.

The Reds also missed out on some of their priority transfer targets, but landing the signatures of Dominik Szoboszlai, Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister and Wataru Endo has served Liverpool's midfield in good stead. Redknapp has likened Klopp's signings to the kind of rebuild Ferguson achieved so many times at United.

"This has been an incredible rebuild, to be in this position right now and how he's turned it around, Jurgen Klopp," Redknapp told Sky Sports. "From looking like a team I didn't quite know where they were going, I was thinking two or three years before Liverpool can challenge again.

"To get them in this position just shows you how good Jurgen Klopp is. Alex Ferguson was the best at it. He would always reinvent teams, bring in new players. Jurgen Klopp is showing that quality very quickly this year and I'm so excited by this team."

Next up for Liverpool in the Premier League fixture list is a meeting with fierce rivals United knowing a win would see them end the week top of the table. A desperately out of form Red Devils side make the trip to Anfield on Sunday having lost 12 of their 24 games across all competitions this term.

Last time these sides met in Merseyside, Liverpool ran out 7-0 winners in what was one of the darkest days in United's modern history. Klopp has already played down the chances of such a result happening again.

"The 7-0 we knew that day it was a freak result that happens once in a lifetime. If it helps anyone for the next game it is the team who lost 7-0 and not the team who won 7-0," claimed the Liverpool boss.

"If you take it all out of consideration and just play a football game against the historical rival of Liverpool at home at Anfield that itself must make it a special game and that's what I want to see from us, a special game.

"It is a home game. It is for the people. We know what it means. No-one would expect us not to care. We care a lot (but) we cannot go nuts before the game already."
