PUPILS who question their gender should be treated with “appropriate scepticism”, ministers say.
It comes as the Government is expected to release guidance on transgender issues for schools tomorrow.
Deputy Prime Minister Oliver Dowden has said parents must be at the centre of any decision by a child to swap gender.
He said the guidance, which could be put into practice by next summer, “will give clarity to parents and teachers”.
He said: “At the heart of this we need to rebalance our approach and make sure that parents are put at the heart of our approach.

“We need to put all children’s safety first and I think we need to have an appropriate scepticism about social transitioning whilst, of course, respecting children that are in that situation.
“And this guidance will give clarity on these issues to parents and to teachers, putting parents at the heart of decisions and protecting the safety of all children.”
Jonathan Gullis, a former education minister and teacher, said: “It is important for teachers and parents to see this guidance as soon as possible.
"I appreciate it is a sensitive area, but it really has dragged on too long.
“This is leaving teachers vulnerable to cancel culture and wokery from the extremist mob who wish to impose dangerous gender ideology upon young minds.”
