A young girl has written a heart-wrenching letter to Santa Claus, saying all she wants for Christmas is "for people to stop bullying her".

At a Christmas party on Sunday at the Queen's Hotel in Cardenden, near Lochgelly in Fife, the little girl handed over her card leaving everyone speechless when they read it. The hotel shared the story on their Facebook page, stating: "Bittersweet wee post here. Have been debating whether to share, but think there's such an important message for us all."

They added: "Our Christmas party on Sunday was a roaring success with all the wee ones having a ball enjoying the games, buffet and meeting Santa. However, one wee soul handed this card to Santa and it broke our hearts. In-between all the madness and rush of the festive season, just a wee reminder that some folks out there are wishing for something other than a 'must-have' gift. So hug your friends and family that little bit tighter this Christmas and spread some kindness and a little bit of magic wherever you can."

The hotel's post on social media led to loads of support messages from their lovely customers. Scores of people wanted to send presents to make the little girl smile, and local businesses like a martial arts club said they'd help for free to make her feel strong and happy.

The girl's mum said thanks on the post, replying: "Hi everyone, I want to say thank you to each and everyone of you for your kind hearted words and gestures."

"We are so overwhelmed right now, and speechless. We know [our daughter] asked to give Santa a card and we thought it was a nice idea, but we had no idea what she had written in it. I felt my heart drop when I heard about what she asked for. We are aware of [her] feelings and why she feels like this at school."

"[She] is so overwhelmed too, by your lovely comments, she couldn't believe your kind words. She was smiling from ear to ear. It was a great feeling to show how kind people can be and to ignore the nasty ones. Thank you all."
