Wrexham co-owner Ryan Reynolds was lost for words after his side started 2024 with an emphatic 4-1 over Barrow.

The victory leaves Wrexham third in League Two as they chase promotion to League One, while Barrow sit just four points behind them in fourth. Wrexham did concede early, with Kian Spence giving Barrow the lead after just 33 seconds, but they responded brilliantly with former Premier League striker Steven Fletcher scoring a hat trick and star man Paul Mullin also getting a goal.

Wrexham's first three goals all came in injury time in the first-half, with the game getting stopped twice after Barrow players David Worrall and Luca Stephenson both suffered head injuries.

Mullin gave Wrexham the lead with a free-kick and a clip of his strike and passionate celebration was quoted by Reynolds, who wrote: "The love for this club and town: Indescribable."

It comes after Wrexham announced that Mullin and fellow key player Elliot Lee had both signed new contracts that would keep them at the club until 2027. The announcement was made one minute past midnight UK time on New Year's Day and ended speculation linking Mullin with a move to Saudi Arabia.

"We're delighted we've agreed deals with Paul and Elliot," Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson said. "They are two really key players for the club moving forward. There's always a lot of talk going into a transfer window, but the most important thing is to keep hold of your best players – they are two very important signings for us, and we're very pleased to have agreed deals with them."

Mullin, meanwhile, added: "I'm unbelievably happy and grateful to extend my stay at Wrexham. Since signing for the club, I've loved every single second. It's not just become my club, but my whole family also.

"The chance to perform in front of the support we receive is something you long for as a child. Here's to creating more memories to last a lifetime – up the town!" And Lee, who is Wrexham's top scorer this season, said: "It means a lot.

"When I signed 18 months ago, there were high expectations but not I even saw just how well it was going to go. I'm delighted to be extending my stay with Wrexham. It's a special feeling playing for the club.

"Growing up, it was Newcastle and West Ham I had an affinity too and wanted to play for, but I feel I have that now with Wrexham. To represent the team, the badge and the people of Wrexham is a special feeling – I love playing for the club."
